Modern dance is an umbrella term for a large variety of dance styles that include (but are not limited to) Western Concert dance, Theatrical dance, Lyrical dance, Jazz dance and Commercial Jazz.

Chantry's Open Modern Dance sessions primarily focus on developing a strong technical jazz base, and the ability to then apply this base when learning different styles of modern dance choreography.

The programme helps students:
  • develop modern technique and virtuosity
  • experience a range of modern dance choreographic styles
  • enhance musicality and artistry

PROGRAMME CONTENT & LEVELS
Each session includes:
  • Technique work
  • Choreography in various styles

Students are levelled primarily according to their experience and ability; age is a secondary placement factor. Below is a general guide to levels:
  • Junior Modern: 9-11yrs
  • Senior Modern: 12-18yrs
PROGRAMME DETAILS
Entry by audition only
  • Level: Pre-vocational and vocational level
  • Ages: 9-18yrs (2 levels)
  • Dates: 11 monthly 1.5hr sessions per year (Sept-July)
  • Junior Modern: Second Sunday of the month
  • Senior Modern: Fourth Sunday of the month
  • Location: Grantham, East Midlands
  • Fees: £135 per year
AUDITIONS

Auditions are held at various points during the year.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Dancers should have a strong standard for their age of modern dance AND/OR classical ballet.
A focused mindset and a desire to take on challenges and work outside of the comfort zone is essential.
We are looking for dancers who actively seek out challenges and have a high level of commitment to the art of dance.
