Modern dance is an umbrella term for a large variety of dance styles that include (but are not limited to) Western Concert dance, Theatrical dance, Lyrical dance, Jazz dance and Commercial Jazz.
Chantry's Open Modern Dance sessions primarily focus on developing a strong technical jazz base, and the ability to then apply this base when learning different styles of modern dance choreography.
The programme aim to help students:
develop modern technique and virtuosity
experience a range of modern dance choreographic styles
enhance musicality and artistry
Entry is by audition only
11 monthly 1.5-hour sessions per year (Sept-July)
Each session includes technique work followed by learning choreography in various modern dance styles
Suitable for pre-vocational and vocational level students
The programme is technique focussed and studio based, although occasionally Associate students may be invited to take part in performance opportunities
Ages 6-21 divided into a junior and senior class

Chantry School of Contemporary & Balletic Arts is a vocational British dance school and our standards are professional and exacting. We encourage students to commit fully to the demands of any Associate Programme they attend and present and conduct themselves accordingly.
